Handstands

I drew this picture about a year ago when I was trying to work on my handstand. Sometimes if we draw a picture of our fears then they really seem to become less fearful and reachable. A shoulder injury stopped my quest but now I'm back to the handstand journey...when I approach the wall there is still that fear but it behind it there is strength ...which is taking over the fear.
I approach that wall and find the breath , the journey, and say The Handstand.

Meditation Boxes

This collage was my inspiration for the meditation boxes I create. Each are unique
and hold a message of spiritual tone. Most
hold the image of the Buddha somewhere in the
collage and there are also my adornments of
feathers , coins , or shells.

This weaving on canvas reminds me of the circle of life, of the planets , of the clouds.....everything constantly moving...sometimes too quickly or even too slowly .
A good reminder we are all part of this circle , this life this planet.. we are one.

Today I saw an owl on a branch near a creek on a wooded path in our neighborhood. I had seen this owl about 3 years ago. I wondered all morning what brought him to me again... was it
struggle, pain , happiness ,hope? It was a gift no doubt from the heavens from the earth.
I chose this weaving because of the no. 3 ... the weaving has 3 layers.. 3 pieces of dark bamboo separating each layer from the one before. I knew though even before I saw the owl , before I connected with the earth for that day that I had shed a layer
and moved upward.
All one has to do is listen... to the earth , to the wind ,to the birds,to animals .. just listen and watch for the small details for the spaces inbetween the struggle, the pain, the happiness and the hope.

This is from one of my weavings on canvas. It reminds me of clouds, life, breath and harmony. Sometimes we forget that word and its importance..... Harmony.... it is peace, balance,
and breath all rolled into one word of purity. Find some harmony in your day... all you have to do is look and it will come to you.

I think we always have to remember to move forwards in life. Sometimes things happen and they slow us down , but we have to look at what we have created in our life, our accomplishments , our children to see the real meaning .
My studio and work are a real accomplishment for me and as I move higher on my path I must remember to honor myself.

Life is Practice

These small collages are part of my new works.. I call them meditation boxes. This one in particular has very soothing
colours of pinks, reds , and hues of orange and purple. The words say Effort to stay there is called practice. The feather a reminder of flight. It is an effort to work , to love , to create
to run, to practice yoga... we must practice. A little each day.

Mother's day

This blog is in memory of my dear mother.
Her name was Billie.. how fitting for her.
She was beautiful in her youth and years beyond.
She met my father in Asheville, as both had TB and were
recovering. It was a romance that is rare these days... I often
wondered what truly drew them together.. Ernest and Billie
But look at this photo as I often do , she had that rare beauty and charm.. a Grace Kelly look. So on this Mother's Day I honor My dear mother Billie...who I miss so dearly. Billie.....

Not really a fiber piece but a photograph of my most beloved moonflower. My mother who has passed on taught me the beauty of these flowers. I get them in the spring usually as small plants
and by mid June they start to climb and form these flowers that bloom at night by the light and power of the moon. They are somewhat magical as they have an intoxicating aroma and are so perfect with that delicate star in the center. Later on towards fall they produce seeds which you can replant the following spring. This blog is in honor of my mother whose name was Billie .

I still call myself a painter even though I focus more on the Fiber arts now.... all my work has that feel of native american.. maybe it was all those trips with my dad to Cherokee. He would always buy me a bracelet with turquiose and some moccasins. The dog of course is my beloved dog I had in college and thereafter.. Dylan.

This is a very calming weaving on canvas. It is like looking at clouds on a summer day... or watching the ocean from a great spot on the beach. Everything is calm , moments passing one into another... I hope it brings you back to that calm , the moment , the breath ... where in this space and time all is well with you and the world.

Tibet Weaving

This by far is my most favorite weaving. I call it Steps to Tibet.
It resembles layers and steps that we climb in our life journey. The colours are soft and earthy. I've added a small Chinese fish
token and a Chinese Bell for good luck. I guess this is my masterpiece weaving. All the steps are in alignment, the flow is smooth, and the journey in this weaving was long but worthwhile.
Weaving to me is a journey , over earth, over mountains and textures... A peaceful melody created by the weaver and the materials... Enjoy.

Buddhas' Delight

A healing weaving using my favorite buddha token. The weaving will give one a sense of oneness with self, with life, with destiny.
Colors of red promote strength and courage.
